A MODERN BRAND BORN FROM A CENTURIES-OLD INDUSTRY
_Develop a visual identity and logo that clearly communicates the Asma Bandey brand
The British-Kashmiri embroidery atelier, Asma Bandey, specializes in couture-grade embroidery and handmade pashminas. On a mission to re-educate the market about the uniqueness and beauty of Kashmiri embroidery, inspiration for this project was pulled from an appreciation of the exceptionally high level of craftsmanship - specifically the physical act of weaving a chenille needle meticulously through individual threads.
Working directly with Asma Bandey herself, we worked together on various iterations of the logo, typography, and color scheme. After researching traditional embroidery ateliers, namely the famous London and Paris-based houses Hand & Lock and Ecole Lesage, I noticed an opportunity to modernize an industry that has so far stuck to it's highly detailed and ornamental roots.
By simplifying the logo, creating a custom typeface, and updating the shape of the classic "wax seal" or emblem, the brand establishes it's place as an atelier that is modern and innovative, while paying homage to its deep history.
